Assembly Facility Overview

Shanghai Optics operates 3 shifts per day in our 24,000 sq. ft optical assembly department including:

  • 100 assembly stations
  • Five vertical alignment stations with air-bearing rotary tables (opto-alignment)
  • A clean room with a Laminar Flow Table (Class 100) and an optical isolation table

We follow a four-step process that allows us to reach maximum efficiency. When we take on your project, we’ll carefully carry out each of the following four phases:

  1. Component polishing: Before your components go into optical assembly, we can polish them to ensure the highest surface quality while keeping the accuracy of the surface dimensions.
  2. Component coating: All components are coated to achieve precise transmission level for its specific application.
  3. Bonding: We’ll carefully craft your optical components with high precision. Target bonding allows us to create your product with the most exact measurements.
  4. Opto-mechanical assembly: An optical assembly engineer will inspect every component and review the assembly plans, with extreme precision, care and attention to detail.

To achieve high precision and efficiency as well as trouble-free testing, we’ll utilize high-precision assembly benches and fully consider all of your assembly requirements during the course of the optical assembly process

Optical Testing Overview

To achieve and maintain our high-quality standards, we conduct the following tests immediately after the optical assembly stage:

  • ISO 9001 certified process
  • Shimadzu Spectrometer to ensure ultimate transmission or blocking
  • TIR value measuring
  • Zygo interferometer for surface accuracy measurement
  • Ensuring the assembly accuracy is 0.5μm
  • Dual band infrared lens interferometer testing
  • TriOptics MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) measurement station
  • Temperature cycles testing
  • Humidity testing
  • Salt spray test and other environmental testing

Each test serves a specific purpose according to your application.
